Research: Functional, Stereotactic and Epilepsy Laboratory
Temporal Lobe Model for Epilepsy
Epilepsy is a condition characterized by the occurrence of seizures resulting from abnormal electrical activity in the brain. The epilepsy research lab at Emory has a significant presence on the national scene and has been involved in multiple research studies into the nature and treatment of epilepsy.
We have recently developed a temporal lobe model for epilepsy that is behaviorally, electrophysiologically and anatomically similar to mesial temporal sclerosis. We are hoping to develop this model further and test it to determine the characteristics of the epileptogenesis, and to determine its proximity to human epilepsy in terms of neuropharmacology and metabolism. This project is seeking additional funding.
