       Visiting Students
Visiting medical students are welcome and encouraged to rotate through the Emory University, Department of Neurological Surgery. We offer rotations at all four of our hospitals. Students are accepted year-round for 2, 4, 6, and 8 week electives. The clinical clerkships provide students considering a residency in neurological surgery to assist faculty and the current residents in all aspects of the neurosurgery service, as well as interact with faculty in other departments who regularly work with the Department of Neurological Surgery.

Jeffrey Olson, MD with resident Lou TumialánFourth-year medical student neurosurgical sub-internships are also available year-round for 4 to 6 week electives, although prospective applicants are encouraged to schedule sub-internships for the summer or fall of the year of their application. Students become an integral part of the neurosurgery service, assisting members of the house staff and faculty. Activities include assisting in the OR, ICU and ward rounds, taking night call, and attending grand rounds and other teaching conferences. This rotation offers the motivated student an excellent opportunity to contribute to an active neurosurgery service at each hospital (Emory University Hospital, Egelston Children's Hospital, Crawford-Long Spine Center, Grady Memorial Hospital).
