       Application Process

Our 2008 resident application dates are November 29-30 and December 13-14, 2007. We will be interviewing for three PGY1 level openings for the academic year beginning July 1, 2008. We accept three new residents every two years and two every other year into a 6-year program following a PGY-1 year in General Surgery. Viable candidates for the program generally are in the upper 1/3 of their medical school class and have previously demonstrated excellent clinical and intellectual abilities. Recruits are selected based on data on the application form, letters of reference, previous academic performance, and the results of a personal interview. Discrimination with regard to race, ethnicity, religion and sex is not tolerated.

Residency Training
If you are interested in applying to the Emory neurosurgical residency training program, please indicate that when registering with the Central Application Service. Your application will automatically be forwarded from the Central Application Service of the Neurological Surgery Matching Program (SFMatch).

Acceptance for the PGY-1 general surgery position is through the NRMP Matching Program. You do not need to apply through the NRMP; however, you must register with them. During the year, the intern spends the first 6 months in General Surgery and the next 6 months in the NeuroICU.

If you match for a PGY-2 neurosurgical position in our program and wish to take your PGY-1 general surgical training here, this will be arranged for you without a general surgical interview.
